EDO POLITICAL DRAMA 2016

Edo State is on no doubt living up to its popular nick name – the Heartbeat State. A show of force by some of the 25,000 policemen deployed for the election last week  was only one among many acts making the hearts of many in the state to beat .
Tomorrow’s off  season governorship election is also the
focus of the eyes of the nation and could become the most
crucial test for the new helmsman at the Independent
National Electoral Commission, INEC, Prof. Mahmood
Yakubu.
The election, INEC sources say, could also be the first time
that the electronic reporting system is fully deployed in such
a way that election results would be electronically conveyed
to INEC Situation Room. The move could check instances of
results mutilation between voting points and collation
centres.
Though 19 candidates and political parties were registered for the election, there is no doubt that two candidates, Godwin Obaseki of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC and Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP are the focus of the election.
The All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA candidate, Osaro
Onaiwu, is also aiming to draw support himself by posting the good works of the party in Anambra State as prospective
benefits for Edo State should the electorate vote for him. The
election is, however, undoubtedly one of the most heated
contests since the creation of the state. Obaseki is riding on
the goodwill of the outgoing governor, Comrade Adams
Oshiomhole in direct combat against Ize-Iyamu, a man who
has either directly managed or been the main facilitator of all
past successful governorship conquests in 1999, 2003, 2007
and 2012.
